A description of an old picture

Last week our English writing teacher showed us an old picture which he bought in a foreign country. This picture is really a mystery one and showed me a lot.

Through the red, tough paper, we can see three people in this picture : two men and one woman. The woman stared at a man, who stood in front of the bar counter, holding an old, scruffy pipe in his left hand. He caught a piece of paper in his right hand, maybe a little money or something else. Obviously he is a poor man, maybe a traveler who took a long time to find a comfortable place to settle down but failed, or an unemployed man and stuff. All of the guesswork refer to his shabby appearance : he wore a dirty hat and a second-hand suit, it seems he never take care of his clothes. As for his face ,he has a full beard and two eyes without light, his skin is wrinkled. All of these make him like a very poor and old man.
